What does an EV charger permit package include?
Most jurisdictions want an electrical one-line showing the charger circuit and its breaker, a load calculation proving the service can carry the new load, and an updated panel schedule. Where a load management device is used, its documentation joins the package. That is exactly the stack produced here, with the charger datasheet and required labels included.
Do I need a permit to install an EV charger?
For a hardwired Level 2 charger or any new 240 V circuit, almost every jurisdiction requires an electrical permit. Plugging a cord into an existing correctly rated receptacle generally does not. Rules vary by jurisdiction, which is exactly why the package is built to survive plan review rather than to a single template.
How is the load calculation done?
To NEC 220.83, the existing dwelling method written for adding a load to a service that is already there: the first 8,000 VA of load counts at 100% and the remainder at 40%, with the charger counted at nameplate or 7,200 VA, whichever is larger, per NEC 220.57. What if the panel fails the load calculation?
The package documents the compliant path instead of a dead end: a right-sized smaller charger, a load management device per NEC 625.42 with its setting and math, or the service upgrade scope if the numbers truly require one. Inspectors approve documented paths; quotes without math are where rejections come from.
